While in mourning of Kamina's death, Simon starts to act recklessly in battle against the enemy Gunmen. While outside alone, Simon notices something throw a box over a cliff that slides over near him. Simon inspects the box and finds he is able to open it with the same drill key he uses to pilot Lagann. Inside is a young human girl named Nia, but their introduction is cut short when an enemy Gunmen appears.
